Sweet In Defeat: Sha Tin (M87)

11.07.2021

Sha Tin had a turf track presented in GOOD TO FIRM condition with the running rail set in the “A” or true position.

This track was very fast and significant adjustments were made. Winners came from the 600m, 0 to 5.5 lengths from the leader, 1st through 13th positions in the running, 1 to 4 wide around the bend and in lanes 1 to 13 in the home straight. So it was a pretty even surface, just very fast and they were running fast times.

RACE 1: C5 - 1200m
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD TO FIRM

NOTE: Spicy Grill returned with blood in the trachea. The pace was fast and Alloy King enjoyed a good run in transit and notched his first win at start 16. The race didn’t rate well at all, but One Step Ahead ran on pretty well and Spicy Grill did as well and considering he had some post-race issues, it was a solid effort.

RACE 2: C4 - 1400m
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD TO FIRM

NOTE: Forever City returned with mucus. The pace was very fast here yet the first two in the running were the first two home, which was probably a function of the quickness of the track. Harmony Win Win had to cross from the wide alley and was very good. For a Class 4 the race rated well and should stack up going forward.

RACE 3: C5 - 1400M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD TO FIRM

This was a low-grade affair that didn’t rate well, which isn’t surprising. The pace was only even and Jiangxi Stamina ultimately had a class edge on this field, but there’s a lot more required to be competitive up in grade unless he can settle closer in the running. Even Keel was okay, but I have some reservations surrounding this form.

RACE 4: C4 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD TO FIRM

The pace was even and Gluck Racer enjoyed a super run in transit and drew clear to win well. He is consistent, lightly-raced and can be competitive next season up in grade. Zacian is now eligible for Class 5 and he will be too good for that grade next term and makes the SID file. His final-400m (22.32 equal 9th-best on card) was solid and he can settle closer in the running as well.

RACE 5: C4 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD TO FIRM

NOTE: Treasure Of Field returned with mucus. The pace was solid and Lucky With You ran basically to an indentical mark to his debut which was good enough to win. He is a nice prospect and will go on with it, even up in grade. Millenium Falcon (SID) has shown glimmers of potential and this was a good run, producing some of the meeting’s best late splits. Dragon Baby was also very good powering home.

RACE 6: C4 - 1400M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD TO FIRM

NOTE: Easy Fortune returned with mucus. The pace was slow and Green Envy was well placed to take advantage. That’s him, he is probably on his mark now. Telecom Elite produced his best effort, clearly, rattling home from back in the field in 22.39. He is on the brink of a drop in grade and will be too good for Class 5. Zone D was sound, along with Gracylove.

RACE 7: C4 - 2000M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD TO FIRM

The pace was solid here with Crown Avenue simply going too hard in front through the second and third sectionals. Dragon Commander has ended the season in good form and can win again in this grade next season. Nothing else to note with the others.

RACE 8: C1 - 1600M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD TO FIRM

NOTE: Reliable Team returned lame. The pace was brutal here and this race rated in line with some of Golden Sixty’s wins this season, off the back of a suicidal tempo! The Rock has been very good considering he made the running. Champion’s Way, with top weight, has also been massive! Preciousship had the right run, but the horse to follow next season is The Rock.

RACE 9: C3 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD TO FIRM

The first sectional was run slowly and the pace picked up from the 800m, and Drops Of God had all favours leading from start to finish in what was a soft win in the end. I’m not convinced he is any star but his acceleration between the 400 to 200m was sound. I think that with the run he had, he should have won easier. I will be cautious with him going forward.

RACE 10: C1 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD TO FIRM

Lucky Patch, wow, what a win! The first sectional was run very fast here and Lucky Patch enjoyed the run of the race but was dominant, producing the best final-400m (22.39) from the race and it rated well overall. This performance has him right in contention with Hong Kong’s best sprinters, and he might be a good long range play for the Group 1 Hong Kong Sprint next season. Stronger continues to race well and will be better suited under WFA conditions.

RACE 11: C3 - 1400M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD TO FIRM

This win by Blaze Warrior was right in line with his previous efforts. He enjoyed a good run in transit and was too good for this opposition. Master Hero was very good again.
