Sha Tin had a turf track presented in GOOD condition with the running rail set in the “A” or “true” position.
RACE 1: GRIFFIN - 1200m
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
A very slow early tempo was set in the first race by Like That and they ran home in reasonable time, but it was really a sit, sprint. Some of these will probably line up against each other but in terms of next season, the griffins this year haven’t posted very good figures and will find it a lot harder next term.
RACE 2: C4 - 1400m
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
The pace was good and this race rated pretty well for the grade. Circuit Hassler was good given he raced three-wide with no cover through out and only just failed to beat Armor Star, so I expect that he will be competitive in a similar race. So We Joy might just be looking for a trip. Leap Of Faith will strip fitter for the run, but overall, the form should work out well enough.
RACE 3: C4 - 1600M
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
The first two sections of this event were run fast, so from that perspective, Full Power’s performance was very good indeed. Overall, the race rated quite well but with the gaps back to 3rd etc, I think Full Power is the main one to follow from the event.
RACE 4: Group 3 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
This was a sit-and-sprint race with less than a length covering the first-five past the post. There is certainly no star in the sprinting ranks but Fat Turtle wasn’t really suited by the race-shape and closed better than anything else. He might be the one to step up next season over 1200m. Overall, this race fell well short of the rating required to win a typical HKIR sprint.
RACE 5: C3 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
Note: Wind N Grass was found ‘lame the next day’. The pace was good and this race rated reasonably well. Good Luck Friend will be hard to beat in this class even with the 9-point penalty. Biz Power closed well and can be followed, while Wind N Grass obviously had excuses.
RACE 6: C4 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
The first two sections here were quickly run, and it set things up for those midfield or worse. Kinda Cool (SID) was incredibly good given his tough run when covering ground on the pace. Scores Of Fun had a nice run but won well and clearly has more to offer. Sky Darci was very unlucky and would have gone close to winning. And Golden Link (SID) hit the line very well and might appreciate a step up in trip. I will be following the form out of this event.
RACE 7: C4 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
Another race where the first sectional was slick and the final sectional quite slow. Yee Cheong Pegasus relished the tempo and proved too good, and although he remains in the grade, he will find it harder next time. He might be better up in grade with a lighter weight. True Legend worked very hard through the middle stages and there was merit to his run. Hero Star improved in this event and there was some market support for him ($97 into $53).
RACE 8: Group 1 - 2400M
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
Once again, a very solid tempo was set here and the best horse was left standing in Exultant. Once again, he posted a very good figure. Chefano clearly stood up to this level… I’m still trying to work out how he didn’t win in Class 3 when we were on him! Wonders never cease! #TGG
RACE 9: C3 - 1800M
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
A genuine tempo was set through this and once again, they tired noticeably over the final 400m. Enzemble was a sitting shot late but was very good given the strong early pace. With a softer tempo, he might be able to win another one. But most of these take turns from week-to-week.
RACE 10: C3 - 1400M
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
Despite this being an incident-packed race with a loose horse, it actually rated very well. Amazing Chocolate was dominant and consequently received a 13-point penalty for his victory. In any case, with so many runners inconvenienced at a key stage, it’s hard to read too much into the race overall.
RACE 11: C2 - 1400M
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
Once again, the pace was decent in the early stages. Overall, the event rated quite well and Band Of Brothers certainly knows where the line is. Glorious Spectrum had his chance and just an unfavourable bob in the end beat him home. Dan Control was good in defeat and argaubly has more upside than most.
