Sweet In Defeat

Sha Tin (M59) – Sunday, 31 March 2019

By Hutchi

Sha Tin had a turf track presented in GOOD condition and the running rail was in the “A+3” position.

RACE 1: C4 - 1200m
Course: TURF "A+3"     Going: GOOD

This race was run well outside of standard and was the worst of the day. That said, Majestic Endeavour (SID) will get a drop in grade after this run and his recent form has hinted he is close to a win. The winner, Duke Wai has more upside and might even be better suited over further.

RACE 2: C5 - 1600m
Course: TURF "A+3"     Going: GOOD

This race delivered a pretty good rating for this class, it was run inside of standard and the tempo set by Best Effort was genuine. it was a solid win to Indigenous Star sustaining an excellent final-600m and the runner-up Best Effort was sound given the speed he set. The form should stack up well out of this event.

RACE 3: C4 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A+3"     Going: GOOD

This was the second worst race of the day, once again, run outside of standard. That said, I liked the run of Dionysus Collin. He was squeezed at the start, and ran on well posting the eighth-best final-200m (11.64) which was the same as the winner, Everyone’s Joy.

RACE 4: C4 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A+3"     Going: GOOD

At the end of the race, they finished pretty much on standard. The tempo was steady and they sprinted home. Anything that settled midfield or worse had a task on their hands and Junzi, who was beaten six-lengths, was actually quite good. Overall, the race rated quite well and Junzi (SID) should be a good value runner when he next appears.

RACE 5: C4 - 1800M
Course: TURF "A+3"     Going: GOOD

This rated as the best event of the day, which isn’t a surprise given the solid pace set through the first three sections. High Rev worked particularly hard through those sections and battled very well. He makes the SID file and can be followed and overall, I expect the form to stack up well out of this event.

RACE 6: C4 - 1400M
Course: TURF "A+3"     Going: GOOD

This race didn’t rate anytning special, about where it should for the grade. The sectionals were even, with My Winner working home better than anything else. At this stage, just an average race.

RACE 7: C3 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A+3"     Going: GOOD

A decent tempo was set in this one and Champion’s Way continues to impress. Fat Turtle was very good given he set a decent clip out in front. I’m not sure what there was in behind, but the first two horses home look the ones to stick with.

RACE 8: C3 - 1400M
Course: TURF "A+3"     Going: GOOD

The pace here was very fast and it should have set up for the closers, but ultimately it was the first two in the running (Super Wise and Young Legend) that were the first two past the post. This was just Super Wise’s third start for the stable but he looks well-treated for the win with a five-point penalty and I dare say he will take some beating again. Super Elegance ran on well and might appreciate a longer trip, but he will need the speed to be genuine again.

RACE 9: C2 - 1400M
Course: TURF "A+3"     Going: GOOD

The pace picked up around the turn in this one, which probably began too far out from home for Encouraging, who continues to race extremely well. There were no excuses for Tornado Twist, he wasn’t good enough although he looks as though he can raise the bar again with blinkers on, and obviously with time in a future preparation. The race didn’t rate as anything special for this grade (Class 2).

RACE 10: C3 - 1600M
Course: TURF "A+3"     Going: GOOD

A fast tempo was set for the first two sections here. Witness Hunter was very good absorbing that pace and still managed to run fourth so he makes the SID file. Ever Laugh closed with a race-best final-200m (11.98) and the winner Not Usual Talent was sound enough. Overall, the race didn’t rate well for the grade.
