Sweet In Defeat: Sha Tin (M46)

14.02.2021

Sha Tin had a turf track presented in GOOD condition with the running rail set in the “A” or true position.

The winners came from 2nd through 12th position in the running from the 600m, 0.5 to 8.7 lengths from the leader and 2-4 wide around the bend. Lanes 3-12 in the home straight were used, so it appeared as though the rail was clearly inferior both in the running and in the home straight.

RACE 1: C5 - 2000m
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

The early pace was strong and this race didn’t rate very well overall. The strong early pace meant it set-up nicely for the run-ons, so from that perspective, Amazing Agility wasn’t too bad given his proximity to the front end. Given the early work of Nuremburg, I wouldn’t be giving up on him providing he strikes similar opposition. Kungfumaster Panda got the race to suit, but was strong late.

RACE 2: C5 - 1400m
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

This was the worst race on the card and ultimately a very soft tempo was set before a sprint home. Jiangxi Stamina didn’t get clear until late in the race and would’ve won if he got out earlier. Sun Of Makfi was in inferior ground and he too will be winning soon. Both of these will make the SID file even though the race didn’t rate well. Jiangxi Stamina actually produced the best final-200m (11.14) at the entire meeting and that is pretty unusual for a Class 5.

RACE 3: C4 - 1400M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

Dandy Years produced a new peak figure on his third career start and will be competitive again in the grade. New Future peaked on his run after being back and wide and ran to a similar mark to what he did when winning. The eye-catching run was from Sparky Star from back in the field. Super Ten led on inferior ground and there was merit to his run. He could be at decent value when he next steps out.

RACE 4: C4 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

The pace was slow early and it became a sprint home, so once again, not a race that rated well overall. Notwithstanding that, the winner, Fantastic Treasure produced a terrific turn-of-foot (11.14 final-200m, equal best of the day) to notch the win. He came down the right part of the track, but the performance was solid. Bullish Unicorn led on inferior ground and was better than it first appears, while Good Buddy who had shown nothing in two starts at Happy Valley was much better this time and could be one to follow.

RACE 5: C4 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

The pace was even and Decisive Twelve proved too good for Super Winner with race fitness on his side. Super Winner (SID) was outstanding, one of the few to lead and give a bold sight and it was a shame they used those tactics on this track (given the inside was well-off), he may well have won with a different run in transit. Both Dragon Fortune and Divine Era showed some potential on their debuts and might be worth looking at next time.

RACE 6: C4 - 1600M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

The pace was strong here which set up nicely for the closers, including the winner Decisive Action. Shanghai Dragon (SID) set this strong tempo and he battled well given he was on inferior ground, I think he could easily bounce back next time. Green Envy continues to race well but is limited.

RACE 7: C3 - 1400M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

The pace was strong and they were on empty late, which set the race up nicely for Master Montaro. With each of his wins there has been a real pattern with “inside off” tracks combining with strong tempos, so over this distance range, that is probably what he needs. The Crown was very unlucky with some poor decisions made at key stages and he will be one to keep safe next time. Highly Proactive was pretty good given his proximity to the pace.

RACE 8: C1 - 1400M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

This was a high rating race and the tempo, in particular the second sectional, was strong. It’s hard to know with California Rad, but being a part of the early pace and being stuck on the rail, he certainly had excuses. I’m not sure why Fat Turtle went forward as well? Overall, the form should work out well enough as this race did rate well.

RACE 9: C2 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

Sight Success pulled up lame and had mucus, but he wouldn’t have been winning leading on this track. Wellington stayed one-off and proved too strong and his effort rated well. Sky Field stayed on the inside and struck trouble at a key stage. He deserves a forgive. Overall, the race rated well and can be trusted.

RACE 10: C3 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

Trust Me sat three-wide with no cover, which wasn’t the worst spot to be on this track, and was brave in the run to the line. That said, quiet clearly Juneau Park should have won. He was in restricted room and hampered on more than one occasion and off a solid lead speed has produced the third-best final-400m (22.18) at the meeting. He makes the SID file. Majestic Star was also pretty good for his local debut on inferior ground and being a touch held-up, and will be one to watch more closely next time.

RACE 11: C3 - 1600M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

The pace was strong and it set up nicely for the closers, including the winner Super Football. Right Choice (SID) was a part of the early pace and on the worst past of the track, so he makes the SID file and this was a much better run from him.
