Sweet In Defeat
Sha Tin (M45) – Sunday, 10 February 2019

Sha Tin had a turf track presented in GOOD condition with the running rail at the true “A” position and an all-weather track (AWT) rated GOOD as well.
RACE 1: C5 - 1200m
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
A pretty genuine tempo was set for this grade through the early stages and overall the race rated just okay. Nashashuk sustained a solid final-800m (45.93) and perhaps a return to the city course might be fruitful. Indigenous Star might appreciate going up in trip, his final-200m (12.08) was a race-best, but overall, this was just a race.
RACE 2: C4 - 1200m
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
This race rated well. The winner Prince Of Gems looks smart and they posted the same time as Lean Perfection (C2) later in the day. So from that perspective, keep following Prince of Gems, while Mr Croissant (SID) should be winning in the short term. Circuit Three is bred to handle further and will be improved for the experience.
RACE 3: C2 - 2000M
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
This race rated head and shoulders above any race on the day. The pace was solid so it was a pretty good win to Enrichment who seemed to appreciate the pressure, rather than a sit-and-sprint. Charity Go was close enough to the solid tempo and was brave, he has certainly had some excuses this season. The form should stack up well out of this race.
RACE 4: C4 - 1200M
Course: AWT Going: GOOD
An even tempo was set here and it was an all the way win to Coby Oppa who on his second race start won well. He looks promising and can probably take some beating on this surface up in grade. The rest finished in a clump…..this one is all about the winner.
RACE 5: C4 - 1600M
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
This race didn’t rate anything special and a steady tempo was set. Romantic Chef was flushed out early enough and boxed on okay but I won’t be reading too much in to the form out of this race.
RACE 6: C4 - 1400M
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
The pace really picked up from the 800m and this race rated quite well for the grade. Super Star posted the sixth-best final-200m (11.48) off a steady tempo, but it was an excellent victory all the same. He will be hard to beat again. Guy Dragon wasn’t suited by the tempo but showed some promise and might be one to keep an eye on next time.
RACE 7: C2 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
This race was run at slow pace and became a sprint home, where Storm Signal was checked and should have won. Most of these runners posted the best closing sectionals at the meeting on the back of a steady early tempo. King Of Hearts is one run from dropping to Class 3 and based on this effort should be close to a win.
RACE 8: C3 - 1000M
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
This was the worst race of the day. It was a sound enough win to I Am Power but I’m not sure there was much depth to this event.
RACE 9: C3 - 1200M
Course: AWT Going: GOOD
The pace was fast in this one and it rated well with a dominant win by Noble De Love. Amazing Star (SID) was part of that speed and he was terrific in defeat with Shimmer And Shine (SID) also closing well. I expect the form to stack up well out of this event and there are definitely a couple worth following.
RACE 10: C3 - 1400M
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
The early pace was very strong and the first two past the post were close enough, so there was some merit to both Right Choice and Gallant Return’s efforts. All that said, even though the race was run to suit Invincible Missile (SID) had no luck in the home straight and with a clear run, it is easy to argue he would have won.
