Sweet In Defeat
Sha Tin (M37) – Saturday, 12 January 2019

Sha Tin had a turf track presented in GOOD condition with the running rail at the “A” position. The all-weather track (AWT) was also rated GOOD.
RACE 1: C5 - 1200m
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
This race was run about on standard and they went a touch quicker than standard to the 400m. Overall the race didn’t rate anything special but there was some merit in the run of Victor Emperor who sustained a long run and closed well.
RACE 2: C5 - 1800m
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
A slow tempo was set here, the second sectional was a second outside standard and it basically developed in to a sprint home. Given the tempo those handy were advantaged, the first three home were in the first five on the turn so from that perspective there was a fair amount on merit in the run of Young Glory (SID). He is ready to win and just needs a more genuine tempo.
RACE 3: C4 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
This race rated quite well with a good tempo set throughout. Debutant Splendour And Gold was excellent in defeat, posting the fourth-best final-200m (11.36) at the entire meeting. He looks more of a miler but should be winning in the short term and he makes the SID file.
RACE 4: C4 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
The overall race time was about on standard following a genuine tempo through the first 800m. Taking that into consideration, the debut of Solar Wai Wai, was excellent. He worked early, never really got much peace on pace when being ‘eyeballed’ and was only caught late. He makes the SID file and will be hard to beat when he next steps out. Super Star missed the start and ran on well, he too should be competitive next time.
RACE 5: C4 - 1400M
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
An even tempo was set here and Hinyuen Swiftness led from start to finish. He performed up to what he has been delivering lately, which might cast some queries over the beaten brigade. Chairman Lo was okay in defeat, along with Beauty Energy but there was nothing really special to take from this event. Bingo Hero missed the start and sustained a good final-800m but overall, it was just a race.
RACE 6: C4 - 1650M
Course: AWT Going: GOOD
A quick first section was set here before the pace steadied. The winner Holy Unicorn sat wide without cover, which isn’t the worst thing on the AWT and was too good. Good Fit ran on well from back in the field. However, overall, the race didn’t rate highly so I won’t be relying too heavily on the form out of this one.
RACE 7: C3 - 1800M
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
A good tempo was set through the early stages and this set things up for the run-on horses. Happy Sebring missed the start badly and rattled home again, he has enough ability to be winning his share of races but he needs to jump on terms (he has to pass a trial). Sunny Power wasn’t too bad given he was part of that early pace and he might be one to consider going forward.
RACE 8: C3 - 1400M
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
A very slow tempo was set for this event and it was some win by Right Choice to overcome it and score. He posted the best final-200m (11.06) at the meeting, and needed to in order to win. His performance rated well and he will be hard to beat again considering he received a 7-point penalty for the win.
RACE 9: C2 - 1650M
Course: AWT Going: GOOD
An all-weather race, but it was the best rating race of the day and that what no real surprise considering it looked a nice event on paper. Elusive State was very good, but very good with 115lbs (a light weight) on his back. That said, most of the field were well-weighted. One runner of note, Bear Slam, is now eligible for a drop to C3. He might go out reasonable odds when he next competes and he makes the SID file.
RACE 10: C3 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A" Going: GOOD
This rated as the best turf race of the day and the form should stack up well out of it. Off a solid speed, Tornado Twist produced the ninth-best final-400m (22.45) and he is clearly a real talent. Lucky Hero hit the line well and taking in to account he scoped with ‘mucus’ he deserves some plaudits for the effort.
