The Sha Tin “mixed meeting” had a turf track presented in GOOD condition with the running rail in the “B+2” position. The AWT was also rated GOOD.

Sweet In Defeat recent winners include:

Waikuku

Young Legend

Regency Legend

Dynamic Eagle

RACE 1: C4 - 1650m
Course: AWT     Going: GOOD

The first 850m of this race was run soildly and the early pressure eventually took its toll on Grand Harbour who was actually very brave in defeat. This was Romantic Bonanza’s first run on the surface, so one would imagine he will be comeptitive again on it. Remarkable was okay in defeat and while he had the race run to suit, he was taken wide on the turn. Nothing special to take from the race, with the exception of the winner.

RACE 2: C5 - 1200m
Course: TURF "B+2"     Going: GOOD

This race didn’t rate anything special at all for a Class 5 contest. The tempo was even, yet the first two past the post came from well back, suggesting those in the front ranks are very limited. I doubt the form will prove too strong out of this one.

RACE 3: C4 - 1200M
Course: TURF "B+2"     Going: GOOD

This race rated just okay for a Class 4. However, given they were making their respetive debut’s, Chairman Lo (SID) and Craig’s Star (SID) both ran well. If they strike a similar race in the imminent future they can break their maiden. Charizard had interupted running in the home straight and might be looking for further now. He still ran a race-best final-200m (11.66). Note: there was a clear excuse for Hainan Star who was ridden on the pace three-wide and without cover. It wasn’t a very good ride.

RACE 4: C5 - 1400M
Course: TURF "B+2"     Going: GOOD

The pace between the 1200m and 800m was quite solid and that appeared to help the back-markers get in to the finish. I am not sure how strong the form will be out of this one, but Jolly Amber back to Happy Valley and taking a step-up in trip could allow him to run well. Never Better, never wins but he also closed with solid sectionals. Ambitious Speedy was quite good considering he sat close enough to that tempo during the running.

RACE 5: C3 - 1000M
Course: TURF "B+2"     Going: GOOD

This race was run almost a second outside of standard but it didn’t rate that badly after track adjustments. $77 chance Bright Kid seemed to have a lot to offer but could never really build momentum at any stage. He might be one to follow again with natural improvement. Demons Rock closed well down the middle, he too could improve over further.

RACE 6: C4 - 1400M
Course: TURF "B+2"     Going: GOOD

The pace was solid here and this race rated quite nicely for a Class 4 and should stack up well into the future. I Do missed the start, wasn’t tractable, covered ground and hit the line with the best final-200m (11.78). He is a nice prospect, is going to need ground but has the scope to win a couple this season with improved manners. Both Win Win and Family Leader also have upside and this will be a race to trust.

RACE 7: C4 - 1000M
Course: TURF "B+2"     Going: GOOD

This race was won in an overall time one second outside of the standard and was the second event run down the straight. It was a nice win on debut by Dancing Fighter and he looks well treated for the win with a six-point penalty. Eptiwins (SID) jumped awkwardly but was excellent in defeat. His final-600m (34.02- race-best) was terrific and he is close to a win.

RACE 8: C3 - 2000M
Course: TURF "B+2"     Going: GOOD

This race rated very highly due to a fast early tempo that simply couldn’t be sustained. It’s hard to see a Class 3 2000m race being run in a similar manner in the future, but Last Kingdom might be one to be followed next start. That will be his fourth run this preparation and over a similar trip at Happy Valley he could be some value and run well.

RACE 9: C3 - 1200M
Course: AWT     Going: GOOD

A solid tempo was set here and it was a decent win to Sparkling Dragon. Double Valentine was checked at the 500m and could have won, it was very sound in defeat, while King Opie closed with the second-best final-200m of the race when never really in the hunt. However, Double Valentine is certainly one to consider going forward.

RACE 10: C2 - 1400M
Course: TURF "B+2"     Going: GOOD

Quite a solid tempo was set throughout this race. Superich didn’t really travel well but still closed with the third-best final-200m of the meeting, off a solid speed. Gee, he has run some huge races in defeat this season. This race rated well enough for some runners to be winning some very good races. The form should stack up well out of this event.  Infinity Endeavour (SID) was slowly away but ran on well and is close to a win. It was a nice debut from Packing Warrior who peaked on his run but will no doubt strip fitter for the outing.
