Sweet In Defeat: Sha Tin (M25)

29.11.2020

Sha Tin had a turf track presented in GOOD condition with the running rail set in the “C” position.

The turf track played around standard, with the winners coming from 1st through 10th position in running, 0 to 6.7 lengths from the leader and 1-3 wide around the bend. Lanes 1-8 in the home straight were all used. The straight track clearly raced significantly slower than standard.

The races on the AWT (dirt) track were run on a surface rated GOOD.

The all-weather track raced faster than it has at other meetings this season, and the times were close to standard whereas other meetings major alterations to the standards were made.

RACE 1: C4 - 1000m
Course: TURF "C"     Going: GOOD

It was a very impressive debut from Super Axiom who led from start to finish and the result never really looked in any doubt. The time was well outside of standard but the straight course is its own beast and based on this win, he can go up in grade and prove hard to beat again. Amazing Rocky had his chance but has shown enough potential to be winning a race in the short term and he shouldn’t have to wait too long.

RACE 2: C5 - 1400m
Course: TURF "C"     Going: GOOD

The pace was decent and it really should have set things up nicely for those back in the field, but Adonis got the “one-one” and proved too good. This race rated quite well for the grade, the form should stack up well and I found a couple to follow. Red Brick Fighter (SID) had the run of the race but given the gap between runs he will strip fitter. The same applies to Spicy Grill who was just having his 8th career start. He will be winning soon. Destin had his chance but it won’t take him long to win in the class.

RACE 3: C4 - 1200M
Course: AWT     Going: GOOD

Super Alliances scored back-to-back wins. The pace was solid and he clearly liked the tempo and the dirt surface. El Jefe (SID) clearly liked the surface on his first attempt and his pedigree suggests that a mile will suit. However, he will strip fitter next time and can win a race soon. Lucky Turbo is on the brink of a drop in grade, and we will be backing him in Class 5 for sure, preferably over 1400+.

RACE 4: C3 - 1200M
Course: AWT     Going: GOOD

He didn’t have the easiest run in transit but Czarson was dominant in the end, and to be fair, he should have won his previous two runs on the surface with any sort of luck. They have smashed him +11 points in the handicap, but with a light weight he can run well on the dirt. All For South (SID) was extremely brave, he was absolutely poleaxed into the first turn and did very well to get as close as he did. He will be winning a race soon.

RACE 5: C4 - 1600M
Course: TURF "C"     Going: GOOD

All For St Paul’s won well and set himself a new peak figure. Derek Leung took his time to work across to lead before ramping it up from the 600m, so the horse was well ridden and he posted a very good number. Leading Fortune (SID) has now had excuses his last two races and is ready to win. He was a touch held-up and still ran well for 2nd. Note, Master Hero pulled up “lame the next day” so it was a forgive, but I am always a little weary of some of the beaten favourites that come up with that the following day. The form should work out well when one considers that they ran faster time here than Class 1 feature with Sky Darci.

RACE 6: C4 - 1400M
Course: TURF "C"     Going: GOOD

A better race-shape, a little bit of cover and the claim all helped Kasi Farasi score here and it was a decent enough win. Telecom Rocket had his chance and ran up to his mark. Robot Warrior (SID) got shuffled back mid-race, bumped and unbalanced in the straight and still had a race-best final-200m (11.54). Winning Steed had a good run and received every chance, I got him wrong. He looked as though 1400m was too far.

RACE 7: C1 - 1600M
Course: TURF "C"     Going: GOOD

This was a muddling-run race, they went pretty slow until the 800m. Buddies was given a poor ride to be honest, he should been asked to roll earlier. It was a nice win by Sky Darci who has improved with each run this preparation and is clearly a nice prospect. Lucky Express continues to race well, but the race shape didn’t suit him. General’s Delight (SID) was excellent, and he hit the line better than anything, albeit with a light weight. He looks ready now and can win something easier. Glorious Dragon was good too, he will be one to keep safe up in trip.

RACE 8: C3 - 1200M
Course: TURF "C"     Going: GOOD

They crawled in this event and then sprinted home from the 400m, so all the best closing sectionals from the meeting came from this race. Like That was disappointing, given his settling position and the race shape. Sea Of Life and Royal Bomb both ran with merit and might be worth a closer look when they next appear. Overall, a tricky race to assess given such a slow lead speed and the subsequent sprint home.

RACE 9: C3 - 1600M
Course: TURF "C"     Going: GOOD

The pace was strong in this event and it rated pretty well. i’m not sure what that ride was aboard Romantic Combo, he could have had the winners’ run and it was tactically very poor from Borges. There have been some very questionable tactics on a number of occasions with this rider.

RACE 10: C2 - 1400M
Course: TURF "C"     Going: GOOD

This rated as the best race at the meeting, it produced the best figure and was one of the better races of the entire season to date. According to my figures, on his Hong Kong-debut, Enrich Delight has run about a length inferior to Golden Sixty’s efforts this season over the mile (albeit in steadily run affairs). Nonetheless, this will prove to be a very strong form reference and if Enrich Delight can improve, with the move up to a mile etc, then he looks top class. At this point, for the four-year-old series, it will take a good horse to beat him over a mile. I like the fact that the pace was solid and after being held-up he produced the race-best final-200m (11.40) and the head-on vision really shows how badly he was held up. He should have won by at least 1.5-lengths more. Tourbillon Diamond and Shadow Hero were sound, both will be far better suited up in trip. And Invincible Missile looks ready too. It’s a good race to follow going forward.
