Sha Tin had a turf track presented in GOOD condition with the running rail set in the “A” or true position.

There was a clear track pattern on the opening day. The winners were positioned 2nd through 11th at the 400m and not including the straight races, lanes 4 through 13 in the home straight. Not one winner on the day settled on the rail in the running and it was a clear negative, with, in some instances not even a slow lead tempo not able to offset the pattern.

RACE 1: C5 - 1600m
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

A very slow pace was set early here and the winner Joy Master did well to offset that, with the track pattern in his favour. Art Of Raw had the pace in his favour but not the bias, so his run contained merit, although the race didn’t rate well overall. I’m not sure there’s a great deal to take from this one, and it rated as the worst race on the day. With that said, Green Generation closed with a final-200m (11.68) that was sound.

RACE 2: C5 - 1200m
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

The pace was solid through the first two sections of the race and with the pattern (favouring 3m+ off rail in straight), it played out perfectly for the winner Moneymore. U W Brother led at pace, kicked on the worst part of the track and was only really swallowed up late. He makes the SID file.

RACE 3: C4 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

The pace was quite steady in this event but Winston’s Lad produced the best final-200m (11.04) at the meeting! He had the pattern in his favour, but it was still a good win. I’m not sure that this event was anything special, but All Joyful was held up at a key stage and made his run on the worst part of the track. His run was better than it looked.

RACE 4: C4 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

The early speed was reasonably good but they didn’t finish the race off that strongly. Bright Kid had the perfect run. Untold Riches (SID) was probably the run of the day given the pattern, and it won’t take him long to win a race. Copartner Era closed with some strong sectionals and might be one to keep safe over further.

RACE 5: C4 - 1400M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

The pace was good and this race rated about where it should. Leap Of Faith was sound although sitting three wide with no cover wasn’t as bad as it normally is, and the effort of Angel Of My Eyes (SID) containted merit given where he was in the running. The form should stack up okay out of this one.

RACE 6: C4 - 1000M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

Each straight race ran quick time, as usual, so after adjustements, this race rated just okay. Pegasus Glory was sound given it was his debut and he should appreciate further. He might be one to follow. Dublin Star hit the line with a race-best final-200m (11.28) and his form down the straight is pretty well exposed.

RACE 7: C3 - 1000M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

The early pace was pretty solid and it was a sound win to Metro Warrior. I quite liked the run of Telecom Jac, he closed in a race-best final-200m (11.52) and given he had form over further in Australia, it was a pleasing debut. Maybe not next start, but the run after, if over further he can win, and makes the SID file with a caveat. Take What You Need also went a lot better than he did in his trial, so watch out for him.

RACE 8: C1 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

The pace was strong and this race, as expected rated well. Yet another winner was able to do so after sitting three-wide with no cover, and as has been mentioned, that part of the track was clearly better! Victoriam missed the start which was probably a bonus, but made his challenge on the inside. It was one of the better runs in the race. At first glance Computer Patch was disappointing and he was upon further analysis too, but he clearly peaked on his run and might be able to impove?

RACE 9: C3 - 1400M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

The pace was good enough in this event and it was a very good win by Excellent Proposal who overcame trouble to win. He produced the 4th-best final-200m (11.36) off a decent lead speed and is very good value for the 6-point penalty he received. Star Performance (SID) makes the file, as even though he shifted out to the best part of the track he was on the rail during the running. Uncle Steve also ran well in defeat.

RACE 10: C2 - 1400M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

The pace was solid and this set up for the best race of the day. Star Shine was pretty big posting the 9th-best final-200m (11.51) off a solid pace, and up to a mile next time, he can win. He makes the SID File. Super Wealthy went way too hard in front and is better than that! Beauty Applause also makes the SID file, he was huge!! he sat close to the fast early tempo on wrong part of the track. The form will work out well out this one.
