Sweet In Defeat

Sha Tin – AWT (M60) – Wednesday, 3 April 2019

By Hutchi

Sha Tin had an all-weather track (AWT) presented in GOOD condition for the entire night meeting.

RACE 1: C5 - 1650m
Course: AWT     Going: GOOD

An easy tempo was set here and although the track rode slowly on the night, it was still well outside of the benchmark for the class and distance. Lucky Win Win posted the equal-best final-200m (11.48) at the meeting, which is a fairly good effort for a Class 5 galloper. He might be able to take closer order from a low gate and makes the SID file.

RACE 2: C5 - 1200m
Course: AWT     Going: GOOD

The first two in running were the first two home, Corre Rapido and The Happy Bunch. Hidden Spirit was given a poor ride and covered a lot of ground. His final-600m (35.06) was the best in the race and with a better ride can go better next time. Rochford was also outpaced early and locked away, but was solid in defeat.

RACE 3: C3 - 1200M
Course: AWT     Going: GOOD

The pace was quite solid overall here, but the leader won again, Just Not Listening. The race rated about where it should after taking in to account the surface was riding slowly. Not much to learn from this one.

RACE 4: C3 - 1200M
Course: AWT     Going: GOOD

They went progressively slower in this one, which is a typical profile of a race on the all-weather. Viva Council was particularly good, after being hard-ridden most of the way but closing with an exceptional final-200m (11.12) which was the second-best at the meeting. The dirt rode ‘deep’ and he didn’t like it, but managed to run well. He makes the SID file. Red Horse was also very good.

RACE 5: C4 - 1650M
Course: AWT     Going: GOOD

This was a crawl and sprint, which looked highly possible beforehand, so I’m not sure why Deal Maker handed up a good spot. His 22.69 final-400m in the end wasn’t good enough to reel in the winner General Dino, but he should have sat closer and if he had things would have been interesting. Deal Maker can win in the short term. Overall, the race rated well given the state of the track and considering they didnt go much of a gallop, so I expect the form to hold up strongly out of it.

RACE 6: C4 - 1200M
Course: AWT     Going: GOOD

The way the track rode probably helped Star Luck, but it was still a solid win. Interestingly, Nice Kick ran on again but that enables him to take a drop in grade and he will be winning a Class 5 where ever John Size decides to go.

RACE 7: C4 - 1200M
Course: AWT     Going: GOOD

An extremely fast tempo was set here in the context of the night, yet the leader during the running, still won the race – Winner Supreme. Obviously the state of the track helped. Endearing was huge. He closed with some really good sectionals off a fast pace and he should be winning very soon. Relentless Me (SID) gets a drop in grade and he will make the list as well.

RACE 8: C3 - 1800M
Course: AWT     Going: GOOD

A beautifully rated ride in front here from Moreira and Ping Hai Treasure posted the best figures from the meeting. This fellow is clearly suited to this surface and should he continue to compete on it, these figures suggest he can keep winning.
