Sweet In Defeat: Happy Valley (M86)

07.07.2021

Happy Valley had a turf track presented in GOOD condition with the running rail set in the “A” or true position.

The track played on standard. Winners came from the 600m, 0 to 8.7 lengths from the leader, 2nd though 12th position in the running, 1 to 3 wide and in lanes 4 to 9 in the home straight. The rail was okay in the running, but it was not the spot to be in the home straight.

RACE 1: C5 - 1650m
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

NOTE: Lucky Missile displayed an irregular heart rhythm, Top Score was restricted in its action. Sure Win Win ran to his his mark to land the spoils in this event, and produced the equal 6th-best final-200m (11.20) at the meeting. He was able to sprint off a sedate pace and was close enough but is clearly going well. Apolar Warrior hit the line with similar sectionals from further back and his lack of early pace was a key negative factor.

RACE 2: C5 - 1650m
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

Another race where the early pace was only steady but picked up from the 800m. Seize The Spirit was on inferior ground although he did enjoy the run of the race. This was a new peak for Ka Fortune who has been knocking on the door. For a Class 5 it rated pretty well so I wouldn’t be surprised if the form worked out well.

RACE 3: C4 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

NOTE: Victory In Hand returned lame after the race. The pace was genuine and Fire Ball justified favouritism by winning here. It rated a touch below his recent efforts but he has proven consistent through the season. A Smile Like Yours (SID) was tardily away (Hamelin?), then checked and ultimately produced the best final-200m (11.08) at the meeting. I’ll be following him early next season.

RACE 4: C4 - 1650M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

NOTE: Tangmere returned lame. The pace was reasonably sedate, and effectively they sprinted home. Nothing New was three-wide with no cover the trip, so was very brave given he still produced the best final-200m of the race. Rainbow Light had a gun run and scored, although I’m not sure I would be following him with confidence.

RACE 5: C4 - 1000M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

NOTE: Amazing Rocky returned with blood in the trachea. Faribault had the run of the race and narrowly hung on, and that might be as good as he is. He was probably on slightly inferior ground but will be competitive in this grade going forward. Party Warrior (SID) is a winner waiting to happen. A runner-up on each career run, he hit the line with plenty of purpose once again and can be followed with confidence.

RACE 6: C4 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

NOTE: Little Bird returned lame. The pace ramped up in the middle section and Win Win Star, with the run of the race, produced a new peak figure on his fourth career start. Stormtrouper had a perfect run and that might be as good as he is at this stage. Overall, a reasonably standard race for the grade.

RACE 7: C3 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

The pace was genuine and Simply Fluke, who was detached from the field, has reeled off an excellent final-600m to score. The win was right in line with his recent peformances. The Runner was three-wide the trip and battled well, while Majestic Star was on inferior ground and also performed with merit.

RACE 8: C3 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

The pace ramped up through the middle sections here and by this stage the rail was “off” and all three principals were in the three-wide in the running line. Goodluck Goodluck led on the worst part of the track and was only collared late. He is building an impressive record over the course and distance. Hong Kong Bet was okay too.

RACE 9: C3 - 1650M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

NOTE: Star Of Yuen Long returned lame. Clearly this was the best race of the night and it was an impressive win by Everyone’s Delight who ended up winning four for the season and this was his best performance. Based on this win, he will be winning again in this grade and can win a couple in Class 2 next season. Harmony Spirit has run very well on both starts over the track and trip and should win early next term. This looks a sound form reference going forward.
