Happy Valley had a turf track presented in GOOD condition initially before being upgraded to GOOD TO FIRM condition following race 1. The running rail set in the “C” position.
This track was a stark contrast to what we have seen at Happy Valley in a while. It was very fast, and they were running times, so significant adjustments were made. The winners came from 1st through 11th position in the running, 0 to 4.8 lengths from the leader, 1-5 wide and in lanes 1-17 in the straight. However, six of the nine winners settled in the first-three and being handy near the rail was a positive, with the rail being an okay spot to be in the home straight as well.
RACE 1: C5 - 2200m
Course: TURF "C" Going: GOOD

This was a Class 5 2200m race that I won’t be getting carried away with the number that was posted by Nuremburg, who had conditions to suit and prevailed. A few of these might line up again over the course and distance and another will get his turn. Nuremburg can be competitive in a grade higher with a light weight.
RACE 2: C4 - 1200m
Course: TURF "C" Going: GOOD TO FIRM

The pace was quite solid and this was a good win by H Z Tourbillon at his first run on the turf and only second career start. He found the rail, but quickened very nicely to post a solid final-200m (11.68 equal 10th-best at the meeting). He has ability and although he will rise in grade next time, should be up to the class rise. Off The Reel (SID) was shuffled back through the field, but closed very well indeed and will be one to take from this event, where the form should stack up well.
RACE 3: C4 - 1200M
Course: TURF "C" Going: GOOD TO FIRM

The pace was slow in this race and it was a sprint home. The first-four in the running were the first-four home and probably the weight-swing helped Land Power salute. I’m not sure how strong the form will be out of this one.
RACE 4: C4 - 1200M
Course: TURF "C" Going: GOOD TO FIRM

NOTE: Courageous Dragon bled. This was another race where the tempo was slow, and they sprinted home. Another leader won on the rail too, although Spontaneous does have some upside as a racehorse. I am not fully convinced about the winner, but he is clearly in good form. Telecom Smart was much better this time, and considering it was a drop in class on his 7th local start, he is one to keep an eye on. Good Shot ran well and can be followed at Happy Valley.
RACE 5: C4 - 1650M
Course: TURF "C" Going: GOOD TO FIRM

The pace was very fast here for the first half-mile, and California Levee was the only horse to still be there at the business end of those that sat on the pace. The anchor drop and bold move from Ever Laugh was a good one. It worked out just an average race overall, and a touch difficult to assess with the tactics adopted by a couple.
RACE 6: C4 - 1800M
Course: TURF "C" Going: GOOD TO FIRM

Bundle Of Delight clearly operates better at Happy Valley compared to Sha Tin and it was another good win from him. The pace was solid overall and those near the front end couldn’t last as a result. Of those on pace, Bright Vision actually battled pretty well and I don’t think he is far from a win. He makes the SID file and a jockey upgrade against similar opposition would be nice.
RACE 7: C3 - 1000M
Course: TURF "C" Going: GOOD TO FIRM

It took him 11 starts to break through but Harmony And Rich was impressive and posted a good number to score here. Possibly the firmer track was to blame for Nordic Wellstar finishing 8th, but he was very poor given the run he had in transit and was seemingly given every possible chance. The rest ran to their mark and form should work out okay.
RACE 8: C3 - 1650M
Course: TURF "C" Going: GOOD TO FIRM

The pace was too strong for the first half-mile of this event, so settling back in the field wasn’t the worst spot to be in this one. Telecom Fighters (SID) was incredibly brave as even though the track pattern suited him, the pace didn’t and he has his hoof on the till. Overall, the race rated pretty well so I expect the form as a collective to work out well enough out of it.
RACE 9: C2 - 1200M
Course: TURF "C" Going: GOOD TO FIRM

The pace was solid and Kurpany enjoyed the run of the race and proved too good, but he did have the right run in transit and should have won. Winning Method isn’t far from a win, but I’ve said that before, while Handsome Bo Bo remains in very good form. The race rated about where it should, so nothing particularly special to note here.
