STAR SHINE defeated several of his rivals over this track and trip on June 24 (Race 766) and that victory was a lot better than it appears on paper. It was his first venture to the city course and he did very well to overcome a steady tempo and rally amongst runners. With the pace drawn high numbers here, there should be more speed in this race and I think from a better draw he will be particularly well-suited. SHINING GEM is a very interesting runner. He steps up to the mile, which on pedigree should be suitable, and it is hard to fault his season given he has won four times. Shining Gem also gives me the impression, on how he travels in his races, that the mile will be okay. SUNSHINE WARRIOR maps nicely and with the prospect of more pace should be well suited. The 4.5kg claim should help the chances of BUTTERFIELD who has proven quite consistent though out his rookie Hong Kong season, but I don’t think that the drop back to the mile is ideal. SOLAR WAI WAI is best when he leads at a fast pace, which they haven’t seemed to do with him too often. The wide draw might force the hand of connections in that regard. I’m very keen on Star Shine here and I can’t believe the early price ($15) of Shining Gem.
