There are a number of newcomers in this race and one of them, MY SUGAR, will be one of the main plays for the day. This imposing son of Deep Field has really impressed me in his work and trials and left the impression that he is more than a touch above average. Zac Purton has done plenty of work on him leading in to this debut and the fact he also chose this horse over LUCKY RUBY is a nice additional guide. He’s shown the requisite speed to be able to take up a forward position from where he’ll be very hard to beat in what is a shallow Class 4. I also expect that Lucky Ruby will perform well. His recent turf trial was most encouraging and he too appears to have enough potential to win his way out of this grade. The exposed runners look rather limited. HAPPY TANGO is competitively weighted but there are some runs most-recently that have rated well enough to suggest he can be reasonably competitive. SUPER MISSION will be a sharp improver. He just sat too close to a fast pace on his last outing and a more conservative approach should yield a much better result. I’m happy though to back My Sugar on debut, he’s my best of the day. Lucky Ruby is a big price, because Purton isn’t on him, but I don’t want to lose on the race if he wins either.
