There is very little separating a number of runners in this event and a lot will depend on the pace and tactics each jockey employs. CHAMPION SUPREME looks well-placed in this event with a light weight and he has been posting some pretty good numbers against slightly easier opposition when carrying top weight. I think he will sprint well under the conditions he receives here and no matter how the race is run; he should be able to go very close to winning. NICCONI EXPRESS will strip fitter for his one run back where the pace was very solid. I feel that a strongly-run 1800m might test his stamina, so a slower tempo through-out would be more suitable and that could be the case here today. COLUMBUS COUNTY and RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE both have leading claims. The former is a bit of thinker, and that concerns me as there is no doubt he has the talent. Columbus County constantly delivers strong closing sectionals but he hasn’t fully rounded out a race yet. On Righteous Doctrine, his lack of early pace means he requires a touch of luck with the race shape, but he also possesses a strong closing sprint so must be respected. Moreira is two wins from three starts on him and so his booking is a positive one. In any case, it is an open event so I’d be keeping the spend low and use my prices accordingly.
