This is quite a competitive race, but CRAIG’S STAR has proven consistent enough for most of the season and there is nothing wrong with his last run being the right form leading in to this event. He was runner-up to Marvel Dragon and probably should have won that race, even though in hindsight during the running he was in a good position to pounce. That said, today Craig’s Star should enjoy a similarly good trip from barrier 5. There might be a smaller value play here, on a horse at bigger odds, GREAT TREASURE. He is a one-dimensional galloper that settles last and needs a certain race-shape, but he can reel off a terrific sectional and his last effort against a pronounced track bias was tremendous. KASI FARASI has had a stable change and the booking of Zac Purton for Dennis Yip is noteworthy. The market will be some lead here, but suffice to say whilst he’d be a poor chance on recent form, his best Hong Kong form would give him serious claims. He’s on a winning mark and both his successes in Hong Kong came over 1400m. So if the stable change has rejuvenated Kasi Farasi (and his recent work has looked good), then I expect him to run well and even be worthy of a small speck. BEAUTY SPIRIT is racing in good order but the weight will make it tough for him, as was evident in some respects at his last start, although he maps well to be given every chance to finish close again.
