COLUMBUS COUNTY hasn’t been seen since the Hong Kong Derby where he was galloped on and sustained an injury. His form leading in to that event was very good, although it would have been nicer to see him really attack the line. Nonetheless, the little freshen-up and a solid effort in a recent trial indicate he should take some beating. There could be some queries around whether he will handle Happy Valley, but Caspar Fownes’ strike-rate there is always very good and I doubt this galloper will be any exception. SUPER OASIS is another that has similar form lines and he was quite good last time with the blinkers applied. He did have every chance, and is another that needs to attack the line a little better, so I wouldn’t want to be falling into any short price. SOLAR WAI WAI has posted some very sound performances in fast-run mile races at the Valley this season and can run well again. He could get every favour close to the speed. While HELENA BABY was mentioned in one of my SID reviews recently and his last start was clearly his best run in Hong Kong to date. He has a sense of timing about him.
