The opening race is a Class 5 over 1400m and as long as apprentice Jerry Chau can bounce KANBEKI MOLLY out of the gates and put him in a prominent position, then this looks a good race for him. The horse gets the drop in grade and the 4.5kg claim, which is significant. The step up to 1400m suits Kanbeki Molly, but he doesn’t possess much of a turn of foot, so will need to be wound up into the straight. His only win was over 1650m at Happy Valley where Chad Schofield led and did just that. SOCCER MASTER was an impressive winner on his last outing and something with him has changed or “clicked”, as his recent trial was much better and confirmed his well-being. A repeat effort could see him figure today and he looks a decent “over” in early betting. BUNDLE OF ENERGY will strip fitter for his first up run at Happy Valley but is zero from 21 in Hong Kong and might be a touch of “unders” with Moreira booked to ride. He can’t be far from being at a winning mark, but the price is obviously a key. Similarly HURRICANE HUNTER is a definite chance with Zac Purton booked to ride and the blinkers being re-applied, but whilst he’s been a consistent performer in this grade, he can’t be backed at a short quote. THE FULL BLOOM went a little better last time and is drawn to get a soft run, with a positive factor being that he usually comes right around this time of year. Not a big outlay race, but I’m happy to have small win bets on Kanbeki Molly and Soccer Master.
