This is a competitive race but CALIFORNIA CONCORD makes some appeal. On his Hong Kong debut he worked very hard through the early stages and ended up dueling in the lead, so the fact he battled as well as he did to finish 3^rdto Victoriam was a very good effort. He maps nicely here to sit on or just behind the lead and I expect him to have improved for his second-up run. It’s just a case of quite how he’ll operate on the dirt surface following some efforts in trials at Conghua that appeared okay. HALL OF CHAMP made nice headway in the same race (657) as California Concord and might be a good chance at a bigger price to include in exotics. UTOPIA LIFE is going to roll forward to probably lead and with the 4.5kg claimer on board, he might get the weight relief he needs to be able to score another win. He’s running consistently so that is a big plus. ZERO HEDGE looks dangerously well-weighted. He handles the dirt surface and his recent form has been surprisingly good, given this is his 16^thstart of the season! I’m not sure that JUST NOT LISTENING liked the ‘deeper’ surface he faced last time and he might bounce-back from that effort, but whether he gets the lead or not is significant as he needs his own terms to show his best. California Concord is worth a small win bet and Zero Hedge isn’t far from being ready to win either even though on the cusp of dropping a grade.
