VIRTUS STAR probably gets his chance to break through in this race with the blinkers being applied for the first time and this son of Sebring (who is very limited overall), is probably going to like the surface from what I’ve seen of him. That said, others by the same sire haven’t exactly proven themselves to take any real liking to this particular dirt track. Virtus Star is fit and racing well enough however I’m not sure I will have him anywhere near the market and that means there are likely to be a couple of smaller specks opportunities in the race at much better odds. CURLING LUXURY brings the same form as Virtus Star from their last starts and it is easy to make a case for him given he’s likely to make the running, but he hasn’t exactly proven to be all that reliable in the past. Two runners at very big odds are OLD HAVANA and WICKER, with each having shown glimpses of potential through out otherwise ordinary careers to date, and in some respects backing them appears a “throw at the stumps”. However, Old Havana is only having his second run down in this grade and has a pedigree that should suit the surface. His last run wasn’t hopeless but he will need to jump on terms. Wicker can roll forward from a wide gate and some of his recent form hasn’t been hopeless. Overall it’s not an appealing race though, so any outlay should be small and I’m inclined to have small outlays on Old Havana and Wicker at big quotes.
