ARMOR STAR made my Sweet In Defeat (SID) filerecently following a solid debut over 1200m two weeks ago. He was all at sea in the early stages of the race, but rattled home in a race-best final-400m of 22.57 seconds, part of which was in restricted room, so there was plenty of merit in the run. Zac Purton takes over the reins and the step up to 1400m looks another positive. Like a couple of other inexperienced horses recently though, dealing with the pressures of a race in Hong Kong will be key to him winning. LEAP OF FAITH will have his admirers given John Size and Joao Moreira is combining, and his recent trial following a break (126 days) was sound. He needed time to strengthen-up and he might be one to really improve from his first and into his second preparation. SO WE JOY is having his third run in four weeks, but the return to the turf is a clear positive and the form around his last outing over 1200m on April 26 has worked out well (Casa De Forca and Judy’s Star have both won since). The son of So You Think will clearly appreciate the step up in distance and with the other leading chances lacking experience; he might be a good option. Those three seem to clearly be the main chances, although CIRCUIT HASSLER will have admirers and could sit in a forward position today, while LUCKY PUZZLE might improve with the drop in grade and could be one for exotic players. Armor Star is the runner I’m happy to outlay on here.
