I think that HAPPY ALUMNI is the best horse in this event, but he just does so much wrong on race day that he really isn’t a betting proposition and isn’t easy to price. He often misses the start by a margin and then rattles home late, but if I could be confident he would jump on terms, then he would be a horse I’d mark shorter and a confident bet. BEAUTY SMILE goes in to this race third-up on the back of two solid efforts in his first Hong Kong preparation. Both runs have rated very well and Joao Moreira takes over from Karis Teetan today. He deserves to be favourite and will be hard to beat. REGENCY BO BO went okay in a recent trial but often his “first-up” form is excellent and if there is any rain about then he will not have any issues. I like the fact that he arrives in this grade on fresher legs than others at this time of the season. AMAZING CHOCOLATE impressed me enough in a recent trial and his victory two starts ago rated well, but then he dipped last time out. He needs to be included in calculations, along with BEAUTY SPIRIT who is holding his form well but has more weight this time following his win, where he was given an excellent run.
