LIGHTNING STEED clearly had excuses on his last outing when making an early move for home, on the back of some already very slick early sectionals run by those like him who were racing on the lead. With a more measured tempo and favourable race-shape, he could easily make amends. Lightning Steed has generally performed well over the Happy Valley mile this term and one of the keys to his success tonight is that Moreira and Teetan (rider of Focus) don’t take each other on. FOCUS has had two starts over the course and distance for a win and a second, so is easy to like, although he had every possible chance last time and he doesn’t quicken as well as Lightning Steed over this distance. BLOOMING SPIRIT maps to sit just behind the pace and he has been a model of consistency this preparation. If he can presents in the same sort of condition as he has through out this year then he can be a leading chance again. A very similar case can be made for SEIZE THE SPIRIT. He was held-up at a key stage in the same race (614) that Focus competed in and clearly should have finished closer. He will get a much better run this time and could be at decent value to back to win the race as well. AMAZING LUCK kept on okay last time but the wide draw makes it difficult for him to get an economical enough run to beat a few others.
