UNCLE STEVE won at this meeting last year and I am hoping that history can repeat in this event with Chad Schofield booked to ride for the first time. The Douglas Whyte-trained horse put the writing on the wall on his last outing when producing a solid finishing burst (11.44 10^th-best final-200m) over the mile and after some ‘issues’ earlier this season, he seems ready to go now. He maps nicely and if he brings anything like his winning performance from back in October then I expect that he will beat these horses. SUPER OASIS promotes some interest with the switch in stables and a much better trial since. The blinkers go on for the first time, and he looks the type of horse that will derive benefit from that piece of gear – he might just be “switched on”. Not much else makes appeal in this event. THINKIN’ BIG comes back from the G1 Champions Mile where he wasn’t close, but this is a big step back in class. The blinkers go on him as well and that might “fire him up”. ENRICHMENT has been holding his form well enough to merit consideration again, but quite rightly Joao Moreira has opted to ride BUTTERFIELD who will be far more effective up to the 1800m distance today. It’s not a super-high confidence race, but I’m happy to have a small each way bet on Uncle Steve at his price.
