LIGHTNING STEED is the runner to beat in this event. His last run on the all-weather surface can, and is best to be forgotten, but his run prior when 2^nd to Alpha Hedge was particularly good. The amount of work he did through the first half of that race meant that he could have legitimately faded more than he did, so if Moreira can find the lead and dictate the pace on his terms tonight, then he will be hard to beat. EPTIWINS has been going a lot better since transferring to trainer David Hall, and the pattern or pace have been against him on his last two starts. However, he will get back, even from an inside draw, and with Zac Purton on board he might come up under the odds. If AFTER ME receives any sort of luck from a wide alley then he could legitimately figure in the finish. METHANE has proven himself to be consistent over the track and trip and could figure once again. However, Lightning Steed makes the most appeal in this race and to a lessor degree After Me. Without getting too bullish on the race itself, there looks to be value in quinellas taking Lightning Steed with After Me and Methane, and maybe taking a small win outlay on After Me at the price. I don’t want to be against Lightning Steed to any great degree however.
