R3 GLADIOLUS HANDICAP

Class 4 - 1200m

summary

It’ll be interesting to see if one has much of an edge over the market in this event with the two leading chances YEE CHEONG PEGASUS and GOOD SHOT. Both were sectional stars on their last appearances, and considering Good Shot was first-up and having only his second career start, there was a fair amount of merit to the run. However, the lack of pace in that race meant he travelled well, close in the running, and it allowed him to let down strongly. There is a lot more pace in this event, but he is drawn to get a soft trip again. Yee Cheong Pegasus’ runner-up finish from his last start rated better and his final-200m (10.68-meeting best) was simply exceptional. In addition, the form around his last three runs either winning or just being beaten has proven particularly strong and he looks one of the better bets on the card. With Moreira versus Chadwick, one would think if backing Yee Cheong Pegasus, you’d have a bit in your favour. There isn’t much else of substance in the race. ADONIS has mixed his form this preparation and THE ABRAXAS is weak but will go forward and could give “a bit of cheek”. BRIGHT KID has Purton riding and a stable change, so will be backed. Off raw number to date I can’t get him short enough to be competitive, but that’s not to say he can’t show significant improvement, I’m just not manufacturing a big rating improvement off what I haven’t seen yet. Yee Cheong Pegasus is my best and the quinella with Good Shot appeals.

The pace looks like it’ll be at least GOOD here with FANTASTIC FABIO amongst those aiming to lead from BULLISH BROTHER, THE ABRAXAS and FLYING GODSPELL. KANBEKI MOLLY is drawn wide and might be asked to go forward also with ADONIS mapping ideally behind these horses.
