RACE 6

1 WELLINGTON (rp – $1.80)

WIN (8 units)

WELLINGTON has shown himself to be very talented winning all three of his starts in Hong Kong to date. He has been very impressive in those victories, both to the eye and on my ratings. He’s very progressive, he should appreciate the move up to 1400m and he maps ideally for Purton to give him every chance. He’s my clear best of the card.

Result: 6th (-8 units)

NEXT BEST OUTLAYS

RACE 9

7 GOLD CHEST (rp – $3.00)

WIN (4.5 units)

7 with 4

QUINELLA (1.5 units)

7 with 10 & 12

QUINELLA (0.5 unit each, 1 unit total)

I like the fact that GOLD CHEST races over 1200m again and he has been in near faultless form recently as well. Purton getting the ride is a big positive and the shape of the race should suit him. I will settle off the speed and with the expected pace I hope to see him in the clear in order to unleash his powerful finish.

Results: 3rd (-4.5 units) + 1st, 5th & 7th (-2.5 units) -> (-7 units)

RACE 3

1 GOOD LUCK FRIEND (rp – $2.60)

WIN (4 units)

1 with 8

QUINELLA (1 unit)

GOOD LUCK FRIEND was very good when he won his last start and to my eye he had a bit up his sleeve. Whilst being drawn wide isn’t good over the 1200m at Sha Tin, he’s shown he possesses the speed to overcome the draw and there isn’t a great deal of pressure inside of him. JUDY’S STAR is the horse I’m wary of. He’s ready to win, but has a few tricks from the barriers, but the quinella with those two appeals.

Results: 2nd (-4 units) + 5th (-1 unit) -> (-5 units)

RACE 2

6 WAR OF COURAGE (rp – $4.50)

WIN (3 units)

Chad Schofield will ride WAR OF COURAGE again and the pair can make an impact in this race. The horse’s natural speed can help overcome the draw and I expect that he’ll handle okay racing around a bend for the first time. His numbers suggest he hasn’t stopped winning and I like the 1200m for him.

Result: 3rd (-3 units)

RACE 10

13 MONICA (rp – $6.00)

WIN (2 units)

12 GENERAL’S DELIGHT (rp – $9.00)

WIN (1 unit)

6 BAND OF BROTHERS (rp – $10.00)

WIN (1 unit)

The last race, whilst a quality and competitive affair, is one where I see some horses at decent value that are worth outlaying on. MONICA is the first of those and has been in rock-solid form. I wasn’t ideally ridden last start and should get more favours from barrier 1 this afternoon. GENERAL’S DELIGHT and BAND OF BROTHERS are also priced too big for mine and are worth small win bets too. I’m not a fan of Chan, but the horse formerly known as Millard Reaction has ability and is a very interesting chance carrying no weight today. I’m hoping for a “solid” from Alfie today!

Results: 12th (-2 units) + 1st @ $14.00 BC (+13 units) + 4th (-1 unit) -> (+10 units)

Overall result for 27 units strategy

-13 UNITS  (48% LOSS)

Wow, we got a head-bob – well done Alfie! It’s been a battle today, however that’s how it can go.

Zac Purton himself spoke of his own frustrations after winning the QEII, which highlights once again “the great game”!

Here is what he said:

“The feeling going over the line knowing that I’m the only jockey in Hong Kong to win every Group 1 here is a nice one,” he said.

“I’ve run second in this race so many times and I felt I was going to run second again.

“It caps off a frustrating day, but they’re Group 1 races and they’re hard to win.”

So General’s Delight is a positive end to a challenging card!

I’ll be doing it all again on Wednesday so I look forward to you joining me for Happy Valley then.

Cheers

Hutch
