25.5 units Strategy

best outlays

RACE 9

2 KINGS SHIELD (rp – $3.00)

WIN (6 units)

2 with 1 & 12

QUINELLA (1 unit each, 2 units total)

KINGS SHIELD is my best of the program and I have been very impressed with how this horse handles the dirt surface. He’s a specialist that has speed and some stamina, with that revealed in his turf sprints and all-weather runs over the extended mile. Kings Shield is an outstanding play today as long as he gets away cleanly. They’re some value in the quinellas with GUNNISON and WILL POWER.

Results: 4th (-6 units) + 2nd & 3rd (-2 units) -> (-8 units)

NEXT BEST OUTLAYS

RACE 2

7 FULL POWER (rp – $3.50)

WIN (5 units)

Zac Purton rides FULL POWER and this positive jockey booking should help negate a somewhat tricky barrier draw and potential map. His overall form is excellent for this race and I like him going up in distance now following a decent win over the 1600m last time.

Result: 12th (-5 units)

RACE 5

1 SUPER POWER MAN (rp – $2.50)

WIN (4.5 units)

4 THOU SHALL SING (rp – $8.00)

WIN (1 unit)

SUPER POWER MAN has had a little bit of time between his last start and today’s assignment, however I was happy with what I saw when he trialled recently alongside Foodie Princess. He is drawn to control the race if Schofield desires and from the front will be hard to beat. THOU SHALL SING won well last time and looks a tad underrated by the market. A small outlay on him is warranted.

Results: 1st @ $3.00 BC (+9 units) + 3rd (-1 unit) -> (+8 units)

RACE 1

5 OLD HAVANA (rp – $16.00)

WIN (0.5 unit)

4 LIVERBIRD STAR (rp – $4.50)

WIN (2 units)

3 SEIZE THE SPIRIT (rp – $6.00)

WIN (1.5 unit)

As a result of HURRICANE HUNTER coming up very short, this leaves plenty of room to back three other horses at prices bigger than they should be. OLD HAVANA drops in grade and has shown enough to suggest he can run okay. LIVERBIRD STAR is in good form and SEIZE THE SPIRIT would be a bigger play off his best ratings, but I’m tempered by a recent trial that looked only fair.

Result: 8th (-0.5 units) + 2nd (-2 units) + 7th (-1.5 units) -> (-4 units)

quinella outlays

RACE 7

4 with 10

QUINELLA (1.5 units)

4 with 8

QUINELLA (1 unit)

8 with 10

QUINELLA PLACE/DUET (0.5 unit)

FANTASY maps to get every favour here, but there’s value in the quinella market with HAPPY ALUMNI and GRADE ONE here.

Result: 1st, 3rd & 6th (-3 units)

*ADDITION

The purpose of Hutchi’s Honkers is to provide quality information and strategies pertaining to Hong Kong racing and I have had many clients ask “why do you bet Quinellas and what’s a Quinella Place?”

Firstly it is worth noting that in Hong Kong, the biggest hold in any bet type on their tote is the Quinella pool. For the uninitiated that’s selecting the first and second horses past the post in any order.

The Quinella Place pool is generally marginally smaller than the Win pool in Hong Kong. In Australia the Quinella Place is called the Duet and it pays out on selecting two horses that both finish in the top-three placings past the past, in any order.

Those outlaying from Australia via the SuperTAB will being doing so into a commingled tote with the HKJC. The pools are the Win, Place, Quinella, Quinella Place (Duet) and Tierce (Trifecta).

Overall result for 25.5 units strategy

-12 UNITS  (47% LOSS)

Overall an afternoon that yielded a loss on the Strategy, but some good undercard results with nice Q’s and Tri’s.

Make sure you join me on Wednesday for racing at Happy Valley. Also this week we’ll be building into FWD Champions Day next Sunday. Look out for the interviews on coming out on HH!

Cheers and keep safe until then!
