This could be a race to have a smaller play on a galloper that’s widely regarded as a non-winner, CONFUCIUS DAY. His recent form has been sound and I think the rise in grade might be a positive given he’ll only have 49kg on his back, Confucius Day is a natural front runner that could take some catching around the Happy Valley “C” course. I can’t say that he would be a confident bet, but is worth a smaller play at decent odds. WINNING METHOD posted a big number and some incredible closing sectionals on his way to victory last time and he has proven a much better galloper without the blinkers. He can win again. MIG ENERGY was good down the straight when he endured a very similar run to Larson, a horse that won last week, so that form looks sound enough for this race. He’s drawn to get an ideal run in transit this time so deserves strong consideration. ISLAND SHINE, VICTORY POWER and FANTASTIC FEELING all have claims in what is a very competitive and the hardest race on the card to be confident about any one runner. It is wide open and there’s not much separating a number of these. So I won’t be suggesting a large outlay, but a small one on Confucius Day.
