CAIFORNIADEEPSHOT got a good mention in my Sweet In Defeat (SID) files following his last run when he worked far too hard on-pace before tiring in what I assessed to be a tremendous performance. The presence of VERY RICH MAN and VICTORY IN HAND ensures he won’t get his own way here, but with the right run sitting just off them, he could certainly bounce back to winning ways. That said, SHOUSON and WIND N GRASS both have genuine claims. The former has won three of his last five starts, all over this course and distance and his last win was a new career-peak. He maps well again and a repeat of that, even having to carry more weight tonight will take him close to winning once more. Wind N Grass has had one more run since their meeting and that was on the all-weather, but I’m not reading too much in to that performance. He gets a 4.5kg swing in his favour against Shouson, which allows him a decent chance of turning around a 3 & ¼ lengths beaten margin. MOST BEAUTIFUL has form alongside Shouson and others, while BEAUTY SPARK is yet to win locally but his recent form has been sound. It’s a competitive race overall.
