The Group 2 Sprint Cup is one of the features on the card and is highlighted by the return of boom sprinter AETHERO. The talented half-brother to Classique Legend had some health issues immediately post the Hong Kong Sprint back in December and that was no doubt a factor on the day itself. That said, any one of his last three performances would be good enough to win this event and his recent turf trial indicated he is on target. Listening to Zac Purton (you can see the interview here), it sounds as though there will be improvement to come, but he was pleased with the trial and that’s good enough for me! HOT KING PRAWN is going to be popular in the market given his win under handicap conditions against the majority of this field and under the conditions of this race, he does look well-positioned to score again. That said, THANKS FOREVER was a tremendous run in that event, with the race-best final-400m (21.65) and if he jumps on terms I expect him to run very well indeed. And there’s no doubt that BIG PARTY will strip fitter second-up this afternoon, and the likely solid tempo will help his cause. Aethero is the horse to beat here, but it’s not a big outlay race at all, there are others that appeal more through out the card. If Thanks Forever is available beyond $6.50, then he’s worth a small speck as well.
