The clash of WAIKUKU and BEAUTY GENERATION in the Group 2 Chairman’s Trophy will be one of the features of the day. At this point in time, Waikuku has beaten Beauty Generation the last three times they have faced each other. However, earlier in the season when they clashed in the Celebration Cup, when they were both first up, Beauty Generation had his measure. Suffice to say, John Moore had a lean trot in the November/December time frame and the stable in general were clearly out of form. What adds some intrigue to this clash is that Waikuku is 75 days between runs, with just 47 days for Beauty Generation who was successful in the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup. I have no doubt Beauty Generation isn’t the horse he was, but he is not far off it. Even though each has had a gap between runs, each has impressed in their respective trials. It looks a race in two and believe one of the pair would win this race as it’s set up 90% of the time. Whilst I essentially have nothing between them, if you’re wanting to bet, I have a slight leaning towards Beauty Generation given where the market has them on this occasion. In addition, Waikuku is yet to win first-up and with John Size targeting the Champions Mile in a few weeks time, that’s when I expect him to peak.
