R5 DESIGNS ON ROME HANDICAP

Class 3 - 1200m

summary

This is a good race with HAPPY ALUMNI making the most appeal. He was a touch slow out of the gates on his last outing, which proved very costly in the end. He still produced the 3rd-best final-200m (11.28) of the meeting on March 1 and he is clearly thriving at the moment. Hopefully he can find a nice spot around midfield and with clear running he can land back in the winner’s enclosure. BALTIC SUCCESS finished 2ndin the same event (Race 461) Happy Alumni competed in last time and he very nearly made every post a winner. I expect him to get a little more pressure in the lead but he has to rate a decent chance. All that said, I see PING HAI BRAVO as the main danger and horse to beat. He maps perfectly and Joao Moreira gets back on board. He probably didn’t quite get the tempo to suit him last time, but his body of work reads well and he can win this one. The issue is, what price will you have to take if backing him to win? He looks very short in early markets. GLENEALY GENERALS had excuses last time when lame and also on his prior outing when badly hampered at a key stage. He should receive every favour from barrier 2 and could bounce-back to a degree. I’m happy to outlay on Happy Alumni here.

BEAUTY AMIGO, BALTIC SUCCESS, HAPPY TIME and BEAUTY LOYAL should ensure that the pace is at least GOOD through out the running of this race. GLENEALY GENERALS is drawn ideally from PING HAI BRAVO and both should get the best runs during the race.
