Sha Tin (M67) - Sunday, 28 April 2019

14:45 HK TIME

summary

It is pretty easy to make a case for SPLENDOUR AND GOLD going in to this event, on the back of a three lengths victory over the Sha Tin mile on Derby day. He did get the race run to suit but the form has worked out exceptionally well (Dashing Dart, Chaparral Star and Coolceleb have all won since) and getting in here with 4kg less to carry is a major positive. The gate might not be that bad, as he settles back in the running and needs space to wind up. He has some serious opposition however with GUY DRAGON and CHAMPION SUPREME genuine chances. Guy Dragon was simply a good thing beaten on his last outing and there is no doubt with better luck in running he can win this. He will relish the move up to a mile and looks a great each way prospect running home off a good speed. Champion Supreme drops back in trip but his last win rated very well (London Hall was third then and has won since) and that was his one and only start at Sha Tin, a track that clearly suits him. Any on-pace, “hot rail” pattern with the track (which has happened at this meeting before) will suit the likes of CORDYCEPS and PAKISTAN FRIEND, with the latter stripping fitter for a run. I’m happy to back Guy Dragon each way here though and you should consider taking quinellas with him, Splendour And Gold and Champion Supreme for small, part units.
