summary

This is not much of a race. It looks on paper like a good opportunity for LOOK ERAS to make every post a winner with the drop back to 1,000m and being drawn gate 1. Given this, he should be able to find the lead easily and he will take some catching. Look Eras is clearly the horse to beat, but no doubt with Joao Moreira on board he looks to be well found. The debutant GUNNAR has moved well in a couple of trials and his trial in Victoria, Australia was impressive. The obvious issue is that he has drawn the outside gate, but he appears have some early speed and with any luck at all he can potentially fight out the finish. EVERBRAVE has had excuses at his last two starts. He should get a better run behind a genuine tempo this time and can fare better. Similarly, STAR SUPERIOR will be suited by a return to the turf and his fourth to Champion’s Way (who has twice won impressively since) reads well. Both of his Hong Kong wins have been on the dirt and he is on the brink of a drop in grade, but with the right run he can be competitive and looks too big in the early market based on my assessment of him. Because of this Star Superior is the horse I’m happy to have a small each way ticket on, even though Look Eras is clearly the horse to beat. A small quinella place/duet with these two looks worthwhile also.

speed

LOOK ERAS is a natural leader here and the speed should be at least GOOD. GENTLE BREEZE can lay up close with EVERBRAVE and STAR SUPERIOR is drawn to track these runners in an ideal position.
