summary

The main form reference for this event is race 500, won by Splendour And Gold where DASHING DART finished in second, with WINNING CONTROLLER back in third. Dashing Dart gets back in his races, but has produced similar and consistent figures recently, so if he gets an even track (which is a significant question), he can go close. Dashing Dart will need a bit to go his way from a wide gate but must be considered. As a consequence, Winning Controller might be a better option from a low draw. In the referenced race, he worked far too hard on the lead and was ultimately run down by the stablemate. He has a good record over the Sha Tin mile and gets his chance following a Happy Valley effort that is best forgotten. DOR DOR is close to a win, but once again he doesn’t map well and will need a good ride. Nonetheless, should he land in a favourable spot midfield with cover, and then he too can sprint into contention late. SMART ROCKET might settle a touch closer here and he doesn’t have to improve too much to be a factor. The best ‘over’s in the race is CHAPARRAL STAR. His last win rated very well, he is drawn to secure an ideally trail behind Winning Controller and can run a good race at big odds in this event. I’m happy to back Winning Controller and have a smaller outlay on Chaparral Star here.

speed

The speed should be even and measured by Zac Purton and WINNING CONTROLLER. MARQULA can position close with SUNNY POWER going forward. I expect that CHAPARRAL STAR can following the leader from SHANGHAI DRAGON.
