summary

This is an interesting event but one where my best will compete. BUNDLE OF ENERGY rated well when he ran third to Chaparral Star over the Valley mile and considering he is third-up this preparation, he should be fit and ready. The issue is where he maps although if CALIFORNIA LEGEND leads in a good to fast clip like last time then he should be okay settling off midfield. He is still a maiden from 10 starts so he wouldn’t be one to get carried with. ALPHA HEDGE has proven most consistent and is probably the deserved favourite. He had a dream run last time but was strong through the line and can win again. That all said, TRUE GRIT posted some good numbers earlier this season and, unusually, comes in to this event first-up over the mile for John Size – he is my best of the night. It is worth noting though he has had six trials since then and five in the past eight weeks. He’s been well-prepared, maps ideally and I expect with a repeat of his best, or some improvement will have him winning. GENTRY takes a step-up in grade but his recent form is solid and Zac Purton sticking with him is a positive. I’m pretty keen on a quinella place/duet with Alpha Hedge and True Grit to both be in contention, with True Grit the number one seed.

speed

CALIFORNIA LEGEND can lead this field at a GOOD speed overall with ROMAN ODYSSEY challenging and TRUE GRIT likely to trail. ALPHA HEDGE might be asked to go forward with ROYAL RACER drawn to potentially secure an ideal position during the running.
