summary

The booking of apprentice Alfie Chan (who claims 4.5kg) for VERY SWEET ORANGE suggests they are on target for this event and he is another play for the card. I like the fact that VERY SWEET ORANGE is a pacey, ‘front-running’ type with the apprentice riding and at the end of the day he comes into this with the best form having finished a game second to Gift Of Lifeline. It is worth noting he did fail at his only attempt on the surface but he is clearly a more seasoned galloper now and well suited here. GENTLE BREEZE has gone well in trials on this all-weather surface and although this is his first attempt on it, he looks well suited also. He has a slightly tricky draw to overcome, but his early price looks too big. KIROV will be powering home late on the back of what is likely to be a pace on the fast side of good and he is a two-time winner over the course and distance. VIVA COUNCIL handles the surface and shouldn’t be too far away either, although he might have to work a bit too hard from the outside alley. Very Sweet Orange is the win play here and it’s worth taking quinellas with Gentle Breeze and Kirov given their early odds.
