22 units Strategy

best outlay

7 COBY OPPA (rp – $2.00)

WIN (6.5 units)

COBY OPPA was excellent when winning two starts ago on the dirt surface and certainly didn’t disgrace himself on the Happy Valley turf following that. Back to the all-weather should see him ridden for speed and be very hard to run down even though there is some pace around him.

Result: 2nd (-6.5 units)

9 SIMPLY BIG (rp – $2.80)

WIN (4.5 units)

SIMPLY BIG shapes as a great price in a race with two primary chances, it and Winner Supreme. SIMPLY BIG though, wasn’t much inferior to Winner Supreme when they both won on the surface over three weeks ago and he gets to carry a lot less weight than that day. They should race together in the lead and I believe Simply Big can roll past Winner Supreme late in the race.

Result: 2nd (-4.5 units)

13 PING HAI TREASURE (rp – $2.80)

WIN (4.5 units)

13 with 5, 11 & 12

QUINELLA (0.5 unit each, 1.5 units total)

The last event doesn’t have much speed in it on paper, but PING HAI TREASURE looks to be in the right form and Joao Moreira should be able to control the tempo to suit him on the lead. He won on a synthetic track in France and looks ideally suited to break through in Hong Kong tonight. NAMJONG PLUS, RIGHT HONOURABLE and RED ELYSEES can run well at okay prices and make appeal from a quinella perspective.

Results: 1st @ $4.00 best corporate (+13.5 units) + 8th, 9th & 5th (-1.5 units) -> (+12 units)

11 VERY SWEET ORANGE (rp – $3.00)

WIN (4 units)

11 with 1 & 6

QUINELLA (0.5 unit each, 1 unit total)

VERY SWEET ORANGE returns to the dirt having had one previous failure on the surface when not in the same sort of form as he is at the moment. His last performance behind Gift Of Lifeline suggests he’s going to be very hard to beat as long as Alfred Chan can get him ‘out and going’ early and allows him to roll at a genuine speed.

Results: 9th (-4 units)(-1 unit) -> (-5 units)

Overall result for 22 units strategy

-4 UNITS  (18% LOSS)

The heavy rain during the Sha Tin program really influenced the track, it was a huge advantage to be racing close to the rail and on the speed.

Have Fun Together ran an enormous race all things considered. He missed the kick by a couple of lengths before getting held up at the top of the straight, and made huge ground late and wide on the track.

Superich was brilliant and he looks a galloper with a lot of promise. He maintained a wide run and was powerful through the line. Noble Steed also did a good job to finish second, he’s got points in hand for the new season.

Shining On and Sunshine Holiday never really got into the race given how the track played.

So that brings to an end season 2017/18. Congratulations to John Size, Champion Trainer and Zac Purton, Champion Jockey for their achievements through out the term. It will certainly be a different landscape with Joao Moreira leaving to Japan and I look forward to unlocking plenty of winners factoring-in next season’s crop of jockeys!

Thanks for following Hutchi’s Honkers through out Hong Kong season 2017/18! It was satisfying to turn a seasonal profit, that was the goal and even though it wasn’t large, for bigger players who are able to earn rebates via their respective agencies, it’s been significant.
