21 Units Strategy

best outlay

10 TORNADO TWIST  (rp – $3.00)

WIN (8 units)

10 with 1

QUINELLA (1 unit)

10 with 2 & 6

QUINELLA (0.50 units each, 1 unit total)

TORNADO TWIST is my best of the afternoon with the key being Joao Moreira’s ability to jump the horse cleanly. It seemed an aberration last start and being slowly away significantly hindered his winning chances. I have little doubt he’s the best horse in the race even though ENCOURAGING was excellent when beating him at their last meeting. He can be taken in a quinella and smaller unit quinellas can be taken with WORLD RECORD and LEAN PERFECTION at decent prices.

Result: 2nd (-8 units) + 3rd, 8th & 1st, quinella @ $16.35 (-1 unit)(+7.15 units) -> (-1.85 units)

next best outlays

5 EARTH TRILOGY (rp – $2.80)

WIN (6 units)

EARTH TRILOGY should have won his last start but for getting baulked at a crucial stage in the straight. Even though he doesn’t have kind draw this afternoon, Zac Purton takes over and my map has him being able to slot into a spot from where he can win the race. He rates as the horse to beat and he can have the measure of a few others he met that day.

Result: 9th (-6 units)

5 HAPPY ALUMNI (rp – $3.00)

WIN (5 units)

HAPPY ALUMNI gets a slight weight swing in his favour today over a horse (E STAR) that beat him last start. In addition a good draw and the increased distance makes him the horse to beat. He’ll just need a touch of Purton brilliance to navigate a clear path when the sprint goes on.

Result: 4th (-5 units)

Overall result for 21 units strategy

-12.85 UNITS  (61% LOSS)

The heavy rain during the Sha Tin program really influenced the track, it was a huge advantage to be racing close to the rail and on the speed.

Have Fun Together ran an enormous race all things considered. He missed the kick by a couple of lengths before getting held up at the top of the straight, and made huge ground late and wide on the track.

Superich was brilliant and he looks a galloper with a lot of promise. He maintained a wide run and was powerful through the line. Noble Steed also did a good job to finish second, he’s got points in hand for the new season.

Shining On and Sunshine Holiday never really got into the race given how the track played.

So that brings to an end season 2017/18. Congratulations to John Size, Champion Trainer and Zac Purton, Champion Jockey for their achievements through out the term. It will certainly be a different landscape with Joao Moreira leaving to Japan and I look forward to unlocking plenty of winners factoring-in next season’s crop of jockeys!

Thanks for following Hutchi’s Honkers through out Hong Kong season 2017/18! It was satisfying to turn a seasonal profit, that was the goal and even though it wasn’t large, for bigger players who are able to earn rebates via their respective agencies, it’s been significant.
