20 units Strategy

best outlay

RACE 3

9 BULLISH BROTHER (rp – $3.60)

WIN (5 units)

5 with 9

QUINELLA (1 unit)

BULLISH BROTHER was excellent winning last start, albeit in class 5. It was his first time at Happy Valley and he returned a rating far superior than previously and one that said that he could win up in class, as he is tonight. If he is allowed to roll at a genuine speed he will be hard to run down. GIFT OF LIFELINE is a horse I have a lot of time for and if he gets any luck in the running he can charge into the finish with the quinella being appealing.

Result: 2nd (-5 units) + 3rd (-1 unit) -> (-6 units)

NEXT BEST OUTLAYS

RACE 8

4 ARCADA (rp – $3.80)

WIN (4 units)

4 with 7 & 12

QUINELLA (0.75 unit each, 1.5 units in total)

ARCADA impressed me with how he won last start and following that effort he can go on and win again. He maps to get a good run again and is clearly the horse to beat. There is some value in quinellas with PING HAI TREASURE and RACING LUCK, both were given fair rides at their last starts, so are capable of bouncing back.

Result: 4th (-4 units) + 3rd & 1st (-1.5 units) -> (-5.5 units)

RACE 1

5 HURRICANE HUNTER (rp – $3.80)

WIN (4 units)

HURRICANE HUNTER was undone by a wide draw and the subsequent tactics that Zac Purton was largely forced to employ on him last time. From a better barrier tonight he can position ideally just behind the main speed and be hard to beat.

Result: 4th (-4 units)

each way outlay

RACE 5

2 HAPPY DRAGON (rp – $6.50)

WIN (1.5 units) & PLACE (3 units)

HAPPY DRAGON looks underestimated by the market to me and a part of this is probably because Purton has elected to ride HELENE CHARISMA. Off Happy Dragon’s last start performance he deserves to be rated closer to his stablemate and he maps to be given every chance to finish in the placings.

Result: 3rd @ $2.35p (-1.5 units)(+4.05 units) -> (+2.55 units)

Overall result for 20 units strategy

-12.95 UNITS  (65% LOSS)

The heavy rain during the Sha Tin program really influenced the track, it was a huge advantage to be racing close to the rail and on the speed.

Have Fun Together ran an enormous race all things considered. He missed the kick by a couple of lengths before getting held up at the top of the straight, and made huge ground late and wide on the track.

Superich was brilliant and he looks a galloper with a lot of promise. He maintained a wide run and was powerful through the line. Noble Steed also did a good job to finish second, he’s got points in hand for the new season.

Shining On and Sunshine Holiday never really got into the race given how the track played.

So that brings to an end season 2017/18. Congratulations to John Size, Champion Trainer and Zac Purton, Champion Jockey for their achievements through out the term. It will certainly be a different landscape with Joao Moreira leaving to Japan and I look forward to unlocking plenty of winners factoring-in next season’s crop of jockeys!

Thanks for following Hutchi’s Honkers through out Hong Kong season 2017/18! It was satisfying to turn a seasonal profit, that was the goal and even though it wasn’t large, for bigger players who are able to earn rebates via their respective agencies, it’s been significant.

Cheers
