The entrant with the best figures in this event is SPECIAL STARS. Once again, he will be popular with the public given Zac Purton is teaming up with John Size (29 rides for nine wins) and this gelding is progressive in his own right. He might be better suited to the 1,000m at this stage of his career, but tonight he will probably get back in the field and need some luck. There wasn’t much between him and DREAM COME TRUE when the latter was first up this season and one can envisage some nice improvement out of that run for the son of All Too Hard. If he’s ridden with a touch more patience then he might finish off the race better as well. That said there isn’t a huge opportunity for a horse to relax too much over 1000m. SPEEDY KING is holding his form well and with a win over the track and trip, this fellow can fare well again. He should get a good run positioned just behind the main speed here. Much the same can be said for DRAGON PIONEER who carries the same weight as his last start when he ran second to Little Bird. He too maps to be contesting the lead in the right part of the race. E SUPER maps nicely, and wasn’t suited by duelling in the lead (in race 440 won by Little Bird) last time in a fast race. He can bounce back. This is another tricky race where I suggest you play cautiously, Special Stars is the top pick and small play as long as you get the right price.
