best outlay

RACE 2

8 ORIENTAL ELITE (rp – $3.40)

WIN (5 units)

On a night where the overall confidence about the card isn’t as high as on Hong Kong Derby Day, ORIENTAL ELITE shapes as the best bet. He maps to get a soft run and there should be sufficient speed for him to get into the race late and be hard to beat. Zac Purton rides again and being second-up over 1200m suits this galloper.

Result: 1st @ $4.05 (+15.25 units)

NEXT BEST OUTLAYS

RACE 3

7 TURIN REDSTAR (rp – $4.80)

WIN (2 units) & PLACE (4 units)

TURIN REDSTAR seems to attract bad luck in the running like a magnet, but he draws a barrier in a small field that should see him positioned ideally on speed and on the rail. He meets most horses better at the weights than recent assignments and he should simply finish in the top-three at worst.

Result: 5th (-2 units)(-4 units) -> (-6 units)

RACE 7

3 FANTASTIC EIGHT (rp – $5.00)

WIN (2 units) & PLACE (4 units)

I was very impressed with how FANTASTIC EIGHT hit the line last start and if he brings the same form level to today’s race then he can feature prominently. He needs a race run at genuine speed, which he should get here and for that reason is another sound each way proposition on the card.

Result: 2nd @ $2.60p best corporate (-2 units)(+6.4 units) -> (+4.4 units)

Overall result for 17 units strategy

+13.65 UNITS  (80% PROFIT)

The heavy rain during the Sha Tin program really influenced the track, it was a huge advantage to be racing close to the rail and on the speed.

Have Fun Together ran an enormous race all things considered. He missed the kick by a couple of lengths before getting held up at the top of the straight, and made huge ground late and wide on the track.

Superich was brilliant and he looks a galloper with a lot of promise. He maintained a wide run and was powerful through the line. Noble Steed also did a good job to finish second, he’s got points in hand for the new season.

Shining On and Sunshine Holiday never really got into the race given how the track played.

So that brings to an end season 2017/18. Congratulations to John Size, Champion Trainer and Zac Purton, Champion Jockey for their achievements through out the term. It will certainly be a different landscape with Joao Moreira leaving to Japan and I look forward to unlocking plenty of winners factoring-in next season’s crop of jockeys!

Thanks for following Hutchi’s Honkers through out Hong Kong season 2017/18! It was satisfying to turn a seasonal profit, that was the goal and even though it wasn’t large, for bigger players who are able to earn rebates via their respective agencies, it’s been significant.

Cheers
