36 units Strategy

best outlay

10 TORNADO TWIST (rp – $2.00)

WIN (8 units)

TORNADO TWIST returns to Sha Tin and he shapes as my best of the card. When one factors in his drop in weight from last start, he rates well-clear of his opposition today. He maps to get the right run following a genuine speed and will just need an ounce of luck when Moreira wants to make his run.

Result: 2nd (-8 units)

1 WAIKUKU (rp – $2.40)

WIN (7 units)

1 with 3

QUINELLA (1 unit)

WAIKUKU has had a well-publicised set back last week, but all reports since are that he is good to go. I have been most impressed with his lead-up runs and even though he’s draw widest of all, he’s got the necessary class and tractability to overcome that. FURORE is the runner that can test the favourite or take advantage if Waikuku doesn’t deliver his best. He’s been super in the 4yo Series leading into the Derby.

Result: 2nd (-7 units) + 1st Quinella @ $7.70 (+6.7 units) -> (-0.3 units)

2 MR CROISSANT (rp – $2.60)

WIN (6 units)

MR CROISSANT comes out of a very strong race at his last start and whilst he has drawn barrier 13, I expect that he should be too strong for his opposition, which include a few lightly raced commodities.

Result: 1st @ $2.40 best corporate (+8.4 units)

6 TRUST ME (rp – $3.50)

WIN (4.5 units)

6 with 4

QUINELLA (0.5 unit)

TRUST ME delivered an eye-catching run at only his second start. Purton takes the reins today, the horse has dawn a handy enough gate and following four weeks between races I believe they can sprint too well for them late. MERIDIAN GENIUS has shown enough in three starts thus far and could be a canny quinella include.

Result: 13th (-4.5 units) (-0.5 units) -> (-5 units)

best each way

11 SUPER STAR (rp – $4.00)

WIN (3 units) & PLACE (6 units)

SUPER STAR presents as a horse that looks way too big early in proceedings. I really believe he deserves to be every bit as good a chance (in fact slightly better) as the favourite Invincible Missile. Having raced on the same day at their last two starts I’m happy with how their ratings align and where the value lies! Each way, all day Super Star.

Result: 1st @ $8.00 & $2.40 (best corporate) (+21 units)(+8.4 units) -> (+29.4 units)

Overall result for 36 units strategy

+24.5 UNITS  (68% PROFIT)

The heavy rain during the Sha Tin program really influenced the track, it was a huge advantage to be racing close to the rail and on the speed.

Have Fun Together ran an enormous race all things considered. He missed the kick by a couple of lengths before getting held up at the top of the straight, and made huge ground late and wide on the track.

Superich was brilliant and he looks a galloper with a lot of promise. He maintained a wide run and was powerful through the line. Noble Steed also did a good job to finish second, he’s got points in hand for the new season.

Shining On and Sunshine Holiday never really got into the race given how the track played.

So that brings to an end season 2017/18. Congratulations to John Size, Champion Trainer and Zac Purton, Champion Jockey for their achievements through out the term. It will certainly be a different landscape with Joao Moreira leaving to Japan and I look forward to unlocking plenty of winners factoring-in next season’s crop of jockeys!

Thanks for following Hutchi’s Honkers through out Hong Kong season 2017/18! It was satisfying to turn a seasonal profit, that was the goal and even though it wasn’t large, for bigger players who are able to earn rebates via their respective agencies, it’s been significant.
