There might be a runner to speculate on a smaller scale at reasonable odds here, LITTLE WISE MAN. He caught the eye on his debut against subsequent winner Champion’s Way (Sky Treasure was 10th and also won his next start) when running on strongly in a race-best final-200m of 11.52. He will strip fitter and be better for the experience, but the outside gate is a major concern. Nonetheless, he will start a good price and is worth a small outlay. SHINING ON comes through the same form reference and isn’t the worst chance either. He’s drawn to get a far kinder run in the race from where he can work into the finish. All of that said however, SHAMPORT is the leading contender by my assessment. His recent trial was very good and he looks as though he has been set for this event. The likely favourite, WAH MAY PRINCESS, last win rated quite well but he attained a soft lead and with more weight and pressure here might find it harder. Out of the same race, NICE KICK warrants respect. He posted some good closing sectionals off a slow lead-speed last time and might inject some value if you’re considering taking quinellas or trifectas/tierces. I’m happy to have small outlays on a few horses to bet Wah May Princess here, Shamport, Little Wise Man and Nice Kick.
