ELUSIVE STATE is going to come up a short-priced favourite in this event following four successive wins this season for the popular South African-trainer Tony Millard. For today however I think he is vulnerable, so am happy to bet around him even though overall his form obviously reads and rates well. GLORIOUS ARTIST should have completed a seven-timer for Zac Purton on his last outing when he ran second to KING GENKI, and that race rated well enough to give him a strong chance to atone. He has an awkward draw but the Champion Jockey riding again. Speaking of King Genki, he will make his own luck and any track pattern suiting leaders will help his cause. He should be able to be rated to run his best without a huge amount of early pressure on him from other horses. RAGING BLITZKRIEG was very good when second to Elusive State over the course and distance earlier this season and although they meet on similar terms, Raging Blitzkrieg maps nicely and should get a soft run in the first half of the race. So this is not a race where I’ll be outlaying much, but I’m comfortable having small bets (‘dutching’) on three runners outside of the market favourite.
