One of the bets on the card will line up in this event, SHIMMER AND SHINE (Sweet In Defeat – SID). He caught the eye when competing on the all-weather track (AWT) at his last outing. He was effectively second-up on that occasion, battled well enough and should strip that little bit fitter for this test at the city circuit. Shimmer And Shine is well drawn, has the blinkers applied and looks ready to my eye. Although he didn’t figure on his only Happy Valley start, he has been there for a barrier trial, which he won. With the rail in the “C+3” position, BLITZING is going to be well-suited by racing on the pace and his form this season has generally been quite consistent. He’ll run well again but looks too tight in the early market for me. The rail might work against MR GENUINE who generally runs well when Zac Purton is booked for the ride and his last effort was solid, but I’m not convinced he will get the required tempo that’s at least on the faster side of good. POWERMAX might be a better quinella option even from the wide draw as he continues to perform well over the course and distance and possesses tactical speed early.
