We haven’t seen much of REFINED TREASURE this season but his best efforts from last campaign rated through the roof and he looked a very talented 1,000m galloper. He’s had his problems since though and was lame after his return to the track this season, so there were excuses. I like him up in grade with a lighter weight and he should be hard to beat, but to an extent he has to be taken on trust with his ‘issues’. The return to straight course might assist CALIFORNIA ARCHER who won nicely over the track and distance two starts back. He might also enjoy the pressure in this race, which seems to be laden with fast on-pacers. I AM POWER has now won two of three over the track and trip but needs to raise the bar a touch, however, the 4.5kg drop in weight should help him achieve that. FABULOUS ONE looks likely to be part of the early speed and his recent efforts have rated well-enough to give him claims. It’s not an event that I’m massively keen on, these races are very ‘trappy’, but I think the best version of Refined Treasure will be very hard to beat.
