R6 THE ROTARY CENTENARY CHALLENGE CUP (HANDICAP)

Happy Valley (M48) - Wednesday, 20 February 2019

summary

This should be a good race to play into with NABOO STAR stepping up to the mile for the first time. The wide gate went against him last start (he was taken back from the gate) and on debut he posted some of the best sectionals at the meeting. He maps nicely and is my best of the night. CINQUANTE CINQ was excellent in defeat in a messy race on debut but he did display an excellent final burst (11.04 last-200m meeting-best). He has had a trial since then where he wasn’t really asked to do a lot, but one would expect some nice improvement. MERRYGOWIN comes through the same form line and he too closed well. He’s drawn handily, and might be able to take slightly closer order than recently. GLORY STAR could be very competitive if he returns a figure like either of his wins this season. If he can lead on the rail then he could prove hard to catch. De Sousa certainly has a knack of rating horses well from the front. Universal Go Go shouldn’t the far away either and is a runner that has tactical speed and can be positioned handily. Naboo Star is the bet though, with Cinquante Cinq and Glory Star quinella options.
