23 units Strategy
best outlay
RACE 6
10 NABOO STAR (rp – $2.50)
WIN (8 units)
10 with 8 & 11
QUINELLA (1 unit each, 2 units total)
NABOO STAR is the best of the day and I believe he’ll be suited to the increased distance of this assignment. His last start he went back and cut out a strong closing sectional, however Zac Purton should have him positioned far handier in the running from where he should be too good. CINQUANTE CINQ and GLORY STAR represent good quinella options, with the latter potentially controlling the speed on the lead.
Results: 2nd (-8 units) + 5th & 6th (-2 units) -> (-10 units)
NEXT BEST OUTLAYS
RACE 5
3 SHINING GEM (rp – $4.50)
WIN (3.5 units)
4 JOYFUL UNION (rp – $4.80)
WIN (3.5 units)
Two horses shape as being decent overs in the fifth event, SHINING GEM and JOYFUL UNION. Shining Gem is drawn a tad awkwardly but there should be enough speed for him to get into the finish. Joyful Union is a Hong Kong-debutant that looked good winning two races in New Zealand. Importantly he’s trialed well here and this is not a Class 3 with much depth to it.
Results: 4th (-3.5 units) + 7th (-3.5 units) -> (-7 units)
RACE 8
8 PENANG HALL (rp – $6.00)
WIN (2 units) & PLACE (4 units)
PENANG HALL represents a great each way betting option in the last. He’s drawn to get a soft run and he’s been building nicely this preparation to suggest he can run well at a price. His last start in particular highlighted that he is ready to win off his current mark.
Results: 4th (-2 units)(-4 units) -> (-6 units)
Overall result for 23 units strategy
-23 UNITS (100% LOSS)
The heavy rain during the Sha Tin program really influenced the track, it was a huge advantage to be racing close to the rail and on the speed.
Have Fun Together ran an enormous race all things considered. He missed the kick by a couple of lengths before getting held up at the top of the straight, and made huge ground late and wide on the track.
Superich was brilliant and he looks a galloper with a lot of promise. He maintained a wide run and was powerful through the line. Noble Steed also did a good job to finish second, he’s got points in hand for the new season.
Shining On and Sunshine Holiday never really got into the race given how the track played.
So that brings to an end season 2017/18. Congratulations to John Size, Champion Trainer and Zac Purton, Champion Jockey for their achievements through out the term. It will certainly be a different landscape with Joao Moreira leaving to Japan and I look forward to unlocking plenty of winners factoring-in next season’s crop of jockeys!
Thanks for following Hutchi’s Honkers through out Hong Kong season 2017/18! It was satisfying to turn a seasonal profit, that was the goal and even though it wasn’t large, for bigger players who are able to earn rebates via their respective agencies, it’s been significant.
Cheers
